Let customers add a tip

1. Turn on Customer tips

In the sidebar go to E-commerce and scroll to the Payments section. Find Customer tips and switch it on.

The Customer tips setting in the Payments section of the E-commerce settings page, with the toggle switched on

2. Choose the preset amounts

With tipping on, you'll see Preset amounts shown to customers. These are the quick-pick buttons your customers tap — they default to 5 / 10 / 15 in your store's currency. Change them to whatever suits your prices (for example 10 / 20 / 30).

Customers always get a Custom field and a No tip option as well, so the presets are just shortcuts — they're never forced to use them.

When you're happy, click Save in the bar at the bottom of the page.

3. What the customer sees

When a customer opens the payment link for one of your orders, the Add a tip? prompt appears above the pay button. They can tap a preset, enter a custom amount, or choose No tip. The amount they pick is added to the total to pay, and they're charged the order amount plus the tip in a single payment.

This works for both card (Stripe) and Square online payments.

4. Where tips show up

Each tip is stored against the payment it was added to, separately from the order amount:

  • On the order's Scheduled payments, a paid instalment that included a tip shows the tip alongside it.
  • The payment confirmation email the customer receives lists the tip as its own line.

Because tips are tracked separately, your order totals, invoices and revenue figures are unaffected — a tip is extra money on top, not part of the cake price.

Good to know

  • Tipping is per-bakery and off until you enable it. Turning it on only affects your own store's payment pages.
  • Tips never change the order total. They're charged on top and recorded separately, so reporting stays accurate.
  • Customers are never forced to tip. No tip is always one tap away.
  • Currently available on online order payments (the invoice / payment link). Storefront checkout and PayPal tipping aren't part of this first release.
